Indigenous Family Court Worker
The goal of the Indigenous Family Court Worker is to assist Indigenous people involved in the Canadian justice system to better understand their rights, options and responsibilities when appearing before the courts. This would include the following:
- Indigenous adults charged under the Criminal Code of Canada
- Youth Court 12-17 years (date of the offence)
- Child Protection and Family Court Matters.
The Indigenous Criminal Court Worker is funded by the Ministry of the Attorney General (MAG). The goal of the Indigenous Criminal Court Worker is to navigate Indigenous participants to better understand their rights, options and responsibilities when appearing before the criminal courts and enhance access to justice by assisting Indigenous people involved in the criminal justice system to obtain fair, just, equitable and culturally sensitive treatment.
